| Outcome of local
consultation: Car parking in Keynsham
Summary of findings
from over 700 completed surveys (updated September 2008):
- Fewer than half
(43 per cent) of the people who responded were directly affected by
B&NES Council's decision to start charging Blue Badge holders to
use Keynsham car parks, although around two-thirds (65 per cent) knew
someone directly affected
- Over nine out of
ten respondents disagreed with B&NES' decision to make Blue Badge
holders pay for parking. More than 73 per cent of people 'strongly disagreed'
with the charges
- Just 7.3 per cent
of people who responded agreed with the charges
- When asked to think
about the future, 84 per cent of people felt Blue Badge holders should
continue to have free parking in Keynsham car parks
People were also asked
to think about car parking charges in Keynsham generally - for
people who do not have a Blue Badge as well as those who do:
- Well over half
(54 per cent) think charges in Keynsham car parks should only apply
to long-term parking: short stays (e.g. one or two hours) should be
free
- Around a quarter
(23.8 per cent) believe charges in town car parks should be scrapped
altogether
- Just 12 per cent
of people think the status quo should remain, where everyone has to
pay to park in Keynsham car parks, however long their stay
