Allowances

Having two main places of work means I have a home in both my constituency (near Pensford) and in London. I only own one of my homes (by way of a mortgage). For family reasons, and while not my home, I also own a bungalow in South Gloucestershire (again by way of a mortgage). I derive no rent, income or allowances from this property.

Much of my travel is by train, between North East Somerset and London. I use a small family car to get around the large semi-rural North East Somerset part of my constituency, although occassionally I travel by bicycle. I do not rent any property or office space from any person with connections to me or my family. Find out more here

Office costs in North East Somerset include telephone, security and alarm systems, insurance plus the usual office costs. Find out more here

Office running costs also include communications and computers. Find out more here

Second home costs include mortgage interest, telephone, cleaning, food, security and alarm systems, insurance and household utilities. Find out more here

My constituency office is usually staffed Monday to Friday each week throughout the year. My staff usually take a two-week break during the summer and a week-long break between Christmas and the New Year. My staff are also allowed flexible days off as recompense for their evening and weekend work - for example when they support me at my twice weekly MP surgeries for constituents. All my staff are paid the approved Parliamentary rates. Find out more here

My constituency office can be contacted using the details here.

Foreign travel: all registerable foreign travel and gifts are recorded on the Register of Members Interests. Additionally in 2006, I carried out a six day formal visit paid for by government for my work as part of a Home Office delegation reviewing the effectiveness of Megan's Law in the USA. This was to determine what lessons could be learned and applied here to help better protect children in the UK.

I have made trips to Northern Ireland paid for by the government in my previous unpaid role as the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland's Parliamentary Private Secretary. These were in relation to the now-successfully concluded Northern Ireland peace process.

I have made no foreign trips in relation to my current unpaid role as the Foreign Secretary's Parliamentary Private Secretary. Find out more here
