Bullying is too serious to be used as a political football

The past weeks have seen a deeply serious issue used as a political football. But as parents and children right across North East Somerset will testify, bullying is a big concern and a subject that should never be manipulated for ulterior motives.

Before becoming an MP, I trained with the NSPCC to become a local child protection officer. I saw first-hand the distress bullying causes. Many Guardian readers will know about my unique free anti-bullying booklet for youngsters. Over half a million copies of Don’t Bully Me! have been distributed nationally with the help of charities and private business – giving practical help and advice to make children safer at school and elsewhere.

This anti-bullying booklet’s continuing popularity shows the issue remains a major worry. Those who’ve ever suffered from bullying will have been as dismayed as I was by the trivialization of such a grave matter.

If you want to help protect your children from the wickedness of bullying a few copies of my booklet remain available. Please call 01761 320023 or email dan@dannorris.org.uk if you’d like a free copy. Bullying really is no joke, so I hope my booklet will be helpful.

Please note: The entire booklet is available on this website using this link
