Eddie Izzard warns North East Somerset: Voting Lib Dem will let Tory Mr Rees-Mogg in as new MP
He spoke to a busy public meeting in a Keynsham pub garden during a campaign visit to support Dan Norris in the extremely close two-horse race between Labour and the Tories. Eddie Izzard urged
anyone seriously considering voting Lib Dem following their leader's recent
surge in popularity ratings to think very hard before voting - a message
that is particularly pertinent in North East Somerset, where the Lib Dems
are too far behind Labour and the Tories to stand a chance of winning.
A Lib Dem vote in North East Somerset could allow controversial Tory candidate
Mr
Jacob Rees-Mogg to squeak in as the new MP. The Liberal Democrats
are a long way behind Labour and the Tories in North East Somerset. The figures from the BBC which take into account the constituency boundary changes and are clearly impartial and objective back this up: Labour and Tory tied on 39 per cent, the Lib Dems way behind on 20 per cent. "Go to bed with Nick Clegg and you'll wake up in the morning with David Cameron," said Eddie Izzard. Eddie Izzard fielded a range of questions from a large crowd featuring people aged eight to 80 during the 90 minute session in the pub garden at The Trout Tavern, Keynsham. To much laughter the comedian went on to compare Mr Rees-Mogg's Tories with a group of terrifying creatures from the popular J.K. Rowling novels: "They are like the soulless Dementors in Harry Potter", he said. " They will suck your face off. It hasn't yet been scientifically proved, but it is true!"
