Fox hunting back on the agenda following Tory pledges to reverse the ban

The way we treat animals has always been a significant concern for North East Somerset people. Since first being elected in 1997 rarely a week has passed without at least a handful of constituent letters in my postbag about animal-related issues.

So it’s no surprise that new Conservative pledges to reverse Labour’s fox hunting ban are triggering strong feelings.

Attack on Dan Norris MP by pro-hunt mobMany constituents will recall how soon after first becoming the area’s MP I ran a major constituent survey about hunting to ensure my vote in Parliament reflected the views of people I’m proud to represent.

The survey findings showed my constituents overwhelmingly wanted hunting banned, wherever they live in rural villages or our main towns.

So I worked long and hard, with many others, to get the cruelty of fox hunting banned. It was never going to be easy. You may recall TV and newspaper pictures of physical attacks on me by pro-hunt mobs (pictured here).

Now with fox hunting firmly back on the agenda, I’m again seeking local people’s views to ensure I’m still closely in touch. Please let me know what you think by getting in touch.
