Glowing reflection on all 'behind the scenes' workers

Education and healthcare services that North East Somerset residents use have improved massively over recent years. Record Government investment has of course been vital, as has the excellent work of very many professionals.

But the commitment of all those who work hard behind the scenes in our schools, hospitals and health centres mustn't be overlooked.

Richard Brimble, Wellsway caretaker at 10 Downing StreetPeople like hospital porters, receptionists and care assistants don't often get the credit for the shortest hospital waiting times since records began. And school caretakers and admin staff aren't always the first to be praised for our area's record-breaking GCSE results. But make no mistake the part they play is fundamental.

That's why I'm delighted that Midsomer Norton resident Richard Brimble - a secondary school premises manager who oversees school cleaning and maintenance - is off to 10 Downing Street this week. Gordon and Sarah Brown are holding a 'Community Heroes' Reception to say 'thank you' to many public sector workers from across the country who play a leading role in their local communities.

Richard's attendance is a glowing reflection his own sterling work - but also on all the people in our area who work so hard to help deliver the services everyone relies upon.
