Government funding for North East Somerset and Bath to help tackle anti-social
behaviour
Extra Government funding
to tackle anti-social behaviour in North East Somerset and Bath was announced
last month. It's part of a £10 million training and support package,
made to local councils, aimed at helping communities use the tough powers
the Government has made available to them.
When I'm out and about helping residents, I find anti-social behaviour
often has the most damaging impact of all local problems. But people tell
me they really appreciate their neighbourhood police teams, with PCSOs
and PACT meetings bringing people together to solve priority problems.
This new extra cash is there to ensure more action and quicker action,
to sort community problems more effectively. Many councils and housing
organisations already work closely with police to deal with problem behaviour,
and to support victims.
There have been times when B&NES Council has refused Government money.
For example, their infamous snub of funding offered to help make it free
for all under-16s to swim.
Residents will join me in hoping and expecting this time Conservative-run
B&NES accepts this new Government funding. And crucially, that they
use it wisely so a positive effect is felt by people living in North East
Somerset, not just Bath.
