Radstock Nat West Bank to stay open following MP intervention and local pressure

Nat West Radstock branch customer Jenny Ashman and her son Jaden join Dan Norris in hailing news that the campaign to keep the town's only bank open has been successful - pictured outside the bank with some of Mr Norris's surveys about the issueNorth East Somerset MP Dan Norris has this morning (Thursday 28 January) been told by Nat West bank bosses that the Radstock branch – threatened with closure – will now stay open.

The bank’s change of heart follows Dan’s urgent text and email survey launched late last week, aimed at getting views from Radstock residents and businesses about the planned closure of the town’s only bank.

Dan had arranged a meeting with senior executives, due to take place next week, to convey serious local concerns about the closure.

Dan said: “I’ve been in communication with senior Nat West bosses again this morning. The excellent news is that Nat West’s Radstock branch will not now be closing.

“I’d like to thank Radstock residents and business people for the massive response to my text and email survey. I’ve been deluged with responses. Along with pressure on Nat West, direct from branch customers, this has forced them to reconsider.

“Nat West bosses have also given undertakings to me this morning that the branch opening hours will remain the same, so it will be ‘business as usual’. This is terrific news for Radstock.”

Dan said the coffee morning-style event he had arranged for next Friday, 5 February, at Radstock Methodist Chapel, The Street (2 – 3.30 pm), to discuss the bank’s plans will go ahead, since residents and businesses may want to come along and answer any questions they may have about this issue.

People who want to know more about the bank’s change of heart can also come along to the next of Dan’s surgeries in Radstock, at The Methodist Chapel from 4 – 5pm tomorrow, Friday 29 January.

Dan has been told that branch staff were this morning being informed, and that branch customers will receive a letter telling them the news in the next few days.
