Keynsham plane spotter back in UK with family

North East Somerset’s MP Dan Norris played a vital role in ensuring the release of his constituent, Keynsham resident Stephen Hampton (and his co-plane spotter Steven Ayres), following their arrest and detention in India. (February to March 2010)

The outstanding support that Dan provided to Mr Hampton’s elderly mother, Eileen Cock, throughout the ordeal has been widely reported, and the two men and their families have been generous in the praise for the Labour MP.

Keynsham’s influential local weekly newspaper, The Week In, reported Mrs Cock’s comments:

“Dan has been absolutely marvellous and I don’t know what I would have done without him. He has taken a lot of worry off my shoulders and dealt with the Foreign Office and lawyers for me. He’s been with me all through this.”

In turn Mr Norris has praised the role played by Kinetic Avionics, the company that Mr Norris approached for possible assistance. Kinetic Avionics manufactures the type of equipment being used by the two men when they were arrested in India. The generosity of the firm's contributions towards the men’s legal costs meant they were able to obtain bail, avoiding detention in an Indian jail. It also enabled payment of the fees of the lawyer who helped secure their release.

Below are links to two audio clips, from Gabby Logan’s BBC Five Live show, and Ben Prater’s BBC Radio Bristol ‘Drive’ programme, both broadcast the day the men returned to the UK.
