Youth Bus to begin
visiting Whitchurch village on a weekly basis following l For some time Chew Valley residents have been telling me local young people need more things to do. So Ive been working hard to improve things - for example in Whitchurch along with the local Parish Council trying to boost the facilities and activities available. Im pleased these efforts are paying off as, following my lobbying, the Youth Bus will soon begin visiting Whitchurch on a weekly basis.
And having lobbied Ministers for our area to get a special £2.5 million grant to build new play facilities, its good that new play areas are now in place - in Clutton and Pensford, for example. Upgrading of facilities in East Harptree and Stanton Drew will soon follow, also thanks to this extra Government money.
But what a shame B&NES Council has missed other opportunities - repeatedly cutting youth budgets, and refusing to follow Bristols Council in using Government money to make it free for under-16s to swim in local pools. I keep pressing the point that regardless of distance from B&NES Bath council offices, all local council tax payers expect and are entitled to good quality services for young and old alike.
