Dan Norris Dan has earned his strong local reputation as a down-to-earth community champion. Working in North East Somerset, in the area where he has grown up and worked all his adult life, means he really understands local people and their priorities. Fiercely independent-minded, local man Dan always puts local people first - regardless of politics. Dan watched the tragedy of his Grandfather's slow and lingering death - caused by coal-related illness from working in North East Somerset mines. It's what motivated Dan to want to work for a fairer, more just society - and better opportunities for everyone to fulfil their potential. Being easy to approach, and truly understanding local concerns, really does help residents when they want to ask for help. Many thousands of people have done so, at his twice-weekly surgeries, coffee mornings and other events. It's no exaggeration to say that everyone knows someone who's been helped by Dan Norris.

or Tory Jacob Rees-Mogg London-based banker Jacob Rees-Mogg is pretending to be local, having registered to vote in the constituency along with his personal nanny. It's his latest attempt to get a Commons seat, having failed to win in Scotland, Surrey, Shropshire and elsewhere. His home in Mayfair, London, has played host to Tory Party fundraising, and he spent years living in Hong Kong and Oxford. Then he announced a liking for our area when selected as Tory candidate. He's made national headlines: suggesting people who didn't attend Oxford or Cambridge Universities are "potted plants." His propaganda 'newsletters' have been widely criticised, even by Tory-supporting newspapers. He copied a letter directly from The Sun. Then The Mail and Telegraph highlighted how he brought one of his London office staff to North East Somerset for a photograph, falsely pretending she was local. In 2006 he declared "it is about time we had a recession", saying he has lots of gold, which keeps its value during economic difficulties. Criticised for having a personal nanny as an adult, Mr Rees-Mogg said "I do wish you wouldn't keep going on about my nanny. If I had a valet you'd think it was perfectly normal."
